Ethnographic Observation

Observation 1:
I am not marking Content- you will get full marks if you do this Observation
You are going to learn a research skill while learning about yourself in this assignment
- Make sure to read Ethnographic Eyes by Frank (1999) p.1-14- in Perusall.
- As described in the reading you are going to do an ethnographic observation using the same method as Frank
- Go to a public place (park, shopping centre…), or use a live cam
- Make sure it is a busy time so you can actually observe
- In your Observation notes make two columns, one for “Notetaking” and one for “Notemaking”
- Observe and take notes (preferably by hand) for 45 min.
- Make sure you follow the model in Frank. That is time stamps and your notemaking has to be visually aligned with (next to) the observations they are based in, in notetaking. (I will show you an example in class in week 2)
- Make sure to keep time stamps!!
- Write a 300- 500 word reflection on the act of Notemaking and notetaking- connect to what you know/ are learning about educational research.

We will create a rubric together for this assignment.
